Early Life
Oluwatoyin Oladehinde, professionally known as Toye, was born on July 7, 1998, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Despite his American birth, Toye spent much of his childhood in Nigeria, an experience he credits for shaping his musical identity.
His passion for music began as a secret from his mother, even hiding his real name to pursue his creative passion freely. Influenced by the “Big Three” of Nigerian music Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy Toye developed a deep connection with Afrobeat. That connection later evolved into his unique take on the genre.
Toye is also part of a vibrant lifestyle brand called Faajipolitan, which he co-founded with his friends. Based in Atlanta, the movement promotes enjoyment, positivity, and cultural pride, aligning with Toye’s personal and artistic identity.
Career
Toye’s musical journey officially began in 2019 after an impromptu freestyle session in a recording studio with friends. This moment sparked his commitment to music and set the foundation for his artistic growth. His debut project, “Wahala in Paradise,” featured notable collaborations with Davido and Earthgang, garnering attention both locally and internationally.
In addition to his solo work, Toye also contributed to major projects, including co-writing the track “Shopping Spree” featuring Davido, Chris Brown, and Young Thug.
Toye’s sound blends Afrobeats, R&B, and dancehall, forming part of the modern Afrofusion wave redefining global African music.
In 2025, Davido officially signed Toye to DMW 2.0, a relaunch of his record label. The announcement marked a significant career milestone for Toye and positioned him as one of the new-generation artists to watch in Nigeria and the diaspora.
