Oluseye Desmond Sodamola, known professionally as Spinall (formerly DJ Spinall), is a Nigerian disc jockey, record producer, and songwriter.

He has released six studio albums and collaborated with top artists such as Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, and Asake. Over the years, Spinall has earned numerous awards, including from the All Africa Music Awards and The Beatz Awards.

He made history as the first Nigerian DJ to perform at renowned festivals like Coachella, SXSW, and Glastonbury. In 2014, he founded TheCapMusic, a music label, and also created his signature style, TheCAP, which celebrates his cultural roots.

Sodamola was born in Lagos as the third of five siblings. He completed his primary and secondary education in Lagos State before moving to Ogun State to pursue a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Olabisi Onabanjo University, where he earned his BSc. He also attended Tenstrings Music Institute for further studies.

Career

Spinall’s early musical exposure came from listening to vinyl records played by his parents. He recalls, “In the morning, my dad would wake up, open the drawers, and start playing Fela Kuti and King Sunny Adé records.” This experience deeply influenced him and sparked his passion for music, which grew after watching a DJ perform at his high school.

Sodamola gained recognition in 2004 while working as a radio DJ at Raypower 100.5 FM. During this time, he also studied at Tenstrings Music Institute. He later became part of Industry Nite, where he helped promote underground talents at the weekly events.

In 2014, he founded TheCAPMusic, a record label and management company. The following year, he signed producers to the label. Known as “Top Boy,” Spinall released his first hit single, “GbaGbe E,” featuring Burna Boy. Over the years, he has collaborated with top artists such as 2Baba, Wizkid, Wande Coal, Davido, Mr Eazi, Tiwa Savage, Kizz Daniel, and many more.

Spinall’s career soared from 2015 to 2018 with multiple successful albums, including My Story: The Album, TEN, Dreams, and Iyanu. He became the first African DJ to perform at SXSW and toured five U.S. cities. In 2019, Spinall made history as the first Nigerian DJ to headline Glastonbury and XOYO in London.

He signed major deals with Atlantic Records and Warner Chappell, and his track “Nowo” became a hit. In 2020, he joined The Recording Academy, and in 2022, he released “Palazzo” with Asake. In 2023, Spinall signed with Epic Records and performed at major festivals, including Coachella.
