Early Life
Ayorinde Kehinde Okiki, popularly known as DJ Kaywise, is a Nigerian disc jockey and record producer born on August 4, 1992, in Lagos, Nigeria.
He hails from Ile Ife in Osun State but grew up in Lagos, where he completed both his primary and secondary education. DJ Kaywise entered the Nigerian music scene in 2010, making his mark in the mixtape industry in Alaba.
His breakthrough came with the release of his mixtape “Emergency,” which featured a mix of popular songs from that time. Since then, he has gained widespread recognition as one of Nigeria’s leading DJs and has released several hit tracks in collaboration with prominent Nigerian artists.
Career
DJ Kaywise began his career as a record producer before developing an interest in becoming a Disc Jockey. He started his DJ journey in 2010 and gained recognition after his “Emergency” mixtape made waves in the Alaba market in Lagos. To date, he has released over 10,000 CD mixtapes, more than 50 online mixtapes, and numerous collaborations with Nigerian and African artists.
In 2012, Kaywise dropped his debut single “Hangover,” featuring Dammy Krane and Yung 6ix. The following year, he worked with Iyanya on the track “Loyalist.” He has continued to collaborate with top Nigerian musicians such as Mayorkun, Naira Marley, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Vector, and Ice Prince. In 2019, he launched Kaywise Academy, a DJ academy.
In 2020, Kaywise released “Revolution Mix Vol. 1” to show his support for the EndSARS movement in Nigeria. Later that year, his single “What Type of Dance,” featuring Mayorkun, Naira Marley, and Zlatan Ibile, peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Top Triller Global chart.
His track “High Way,” featuring Phyno, was also a success, reaching number 7 on the Billboard Top Triller Global chart after spending two weeks there.
In addition to his music career, DJ Kaywise is known for hosting “The Joor Concert,” a street concert he launched in 2016. The concert has grown over the years, attracting large crowds, and has even been held in cities outside Nigeria, including London and Dubai.
