Early Life

Udoka Chigozie Oku, widely known as Selebobo, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, producer, and mixing engineer. He gained popularity with his singles Yoyo, Selfie, and Waka Waka, and has worked alongside major Nigerian artists such as Flavour N’abania, Yemi Alade, Tekno Miles, Emma Nyra, and Iyanya. Selebobo earned a nomination for Producer of the Year at the 2018 edition of The Headies.

Born on July 29, 1992, in Enugu State, Nigeria, Selebobo comes from a musical background. His father, Goddy Oku, performed as a guitarist in the 1970s, influencing Selebobo’s early interest in music. As the eleventh child in a family of twelve, he learned to play multiple instruments, especially the guitar. By the age of twelve, he had already begun producing music on his keyboard.

Selebobo completed his primary and secondary education in Enugu State before earning a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State.

Career And Achieements

Selebobo began his professional journey by writing and producing songs. His breakthrough came in 2013 with the release of Yoyo featuring J. Martins. Shortly after, he joined Made Men Music Group (MMMG), working with artists like Tekno and Iyanya. Under the label, he adopted the alias Mixx Monsta and produced major hits, including Yemi Alade’s Johnny, which achieved widespread acclaim.

In 2019, he exited MMMG to launch his own record label, Vault. In 2020, he faced a copyright infringement claim from producer Jay Q over a trombone melody used in the song Take. He later contributed as a producer on Rudeboy’s 2021 solo album Rudykillus.

Selebobo has earned several awards and nominations, including Best Collaboration of the Year, Best Producer, Best Pop Artist, Best New Act to Watch at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards, and Best Artiste of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards.
