Early Life
Ezra Onozutua, professionally known as Northboi, was born on December 23, 1996, and hails from Kogi State, Nigeria. He spent his early years in Kano State and grew up across several cities in Northern Nigeria, including Abuja, Bauchi, Sokoto, Maiduguri, and Jos. These diverse environments helped shape his unique sound and creative perspective.
Northboi began experimenting with music as early as age five. By the time he turned 22, he fully committed to music production, launching his professional career in 2015 after taking a year off from university.
Career
Northboi shot to fame in 2018 with the production of Soco by Wizkid, a massive Afrobeats hit that featured Terri, Spotless, and Ceeza Milli.
However, The track became a cultural anthem, earned multiple awards, and received Gold certification from Music Canada in 2020.
In 2019, he continued his global rise by co-producing Keys To The Kingdom for Beyoncé, featuring Tiwa Savage and Mr Eazi.
The song appeared on the The Lion King: The Gift album, which earned a Grammy nomination and placed Northboi firmly in the international spotlight.
That same year, he also produced and co-wrote Joro by Wizkid, a track that became another smash hit and earned a nomination for Song of the Year at The Headies Awards.
Known for his infectious beats and genre-defining sound, Northboi has also collaborated with leading artists Such as Davido, Tiwa Savage, and Mayorkun.
From crafting iconic Afrobeats bangers to earning recognition on global platforms, Northboi continues to influence the soundscape of modern African music.
