Chicago rapper Lil Durk is in more legal trouble. Prosecutors say he has threatened witnesses ahead of his upcoming murder-for-hire trial. This comes as he tries to get the case dropped.

Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, is linked to the 2022 killing of Quando Rondo’s cousin. The case has gotten a lot of attention. His lawyers say it’s unfair to use his song lyrics as evidence, but the U.S. Attorney disagrees.

“[Lil Durk] is not on trial for his lyrics or his music; he is on trial because he directed, orchestrated, and financed the brazen murder plot at issue in this case,” said U.S. Attorney Bilal A. Essayli.

A major point in the case is Durk’s song “Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy.” Prosecutors originally used the lyrics as part of their case. However, the track was recorded months before the crime. A judge has now ruled that the lyrics cannot be used as evidence in court.

Meanwhile, Durk’s family is speaking out. In a post shared on Instagram, they accused the government of using false evidence to charge him.

“The recent developments in Durk’s legal case have brought a harsh truth to light: the government presented false evidence to a grand jury to indict him. This isn’t justice,” they said.

The family also expressed concern over how Black artists are treated in court. They believe rap lyrics are often used to unfairly build legal cases.

As Durk awaits another bond hearing next month, his family is calling on fans to support him. “Stand for truth. Stand for fairness. Stand for The Voice,” they wrote.

At this time, Lil Durk remains in custody as he prepares for trial later this year.
