Flavour is now one of Nigeria’s most respected highlife stars, but his rise to fame didn’t come without a few powerful lessons along the way. In a recent podcast, he shared a story that marked a turning point in his career.
He recalled a live performance many years ago. Everything was going well until P-Square walked into the venue. At the time, the famous duo were already big stars. Flavour was asked to leave the stage so they could perform.
He didn’t take it personally. Instead, he paid attention. When one of the brothers sang the famous line, “This na temptation,” the crowd went wild. That single moment changed how Flavour saw everything.

Until then, he was focused on performing. But watching P-Square light up the crowd with their own original song made him realise something was missing in his craft. He had the talent, but he hadn’t yet found his own sound.
“That was when it started to dawn on me that these guys create their own sound, they go to the studio, and that’s how it’s done,” he said.
It was the push he needed. He knew it was time to step away from just being a performer and become a true recording artist. That decision helped shape the career that would later bring hits like “Ada Ada,” “Golibe,” and “Big Baller.”
Flavour’s story reminds us that one moment can change everything. And sometimes, the key to greatness is simply seeing how others do it—and deciding to do it your own way.
