Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Ayebo, popularly known as Yemi My Lover, has shared his disappointment over the way he was treated by Nigerian music star Olamide. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about trying to reach the singer after his name was used in a song.
Yemi explained that many artists and skit makers have used the name “Yemi My Lover” in their work. While he appreciates the attention, he revealed that none of them have ever offered him compensation or even reached out.
He recalled that Olamide was the first to use his name in a track, which made him feel genuinely happy at the time. “Olamide was the first to use my name in his song, and I was so happy. My name is blessed by God, that’s why both Davido, Olamide and others including skit makers are using it,” he said.

However, things didn’t go as expected after that. Yemi shared that he once spoke to Fuji legend Pasuma about the situation. Pasuma, surprised, called Olamide immediately and passed the phone to Yemi. That call was the first and only time they spoke directly.
Olamide reportedly told him to collect his number from Pasuma and call him. But Yemi said he tried to reach out several times without success. “I called Olamide for more than six months. He didn’t pick my calls. I messaged him and he didn’t reply,” he said.
Although the name has helped boost his visibility in recent years, the actor believes recognition and respect should also come with it. His story is a reminder of how important it is for creators to acknowledge those who inspire their work.
