Nollywood star Jim Iyke, born James Ikechukwu, has revealed fresh insights into his life, career, and family in a candid conversation with NAOMI CHIMA.
Known for his intense on-screen characters, Jim made it clear that much of what fans read about him online is untrue. He studied Banking and Finance, and Psychology at the University of Jos, but fate steered him into acting. According to him, what started as a random audition for “beer money” turned into a lifelong calling.
Iyke admitted that choosing acting was seen as rebellion in his family. His father initially opposed his career path, but his mother gave him unwavering support until her passing. He described her as his “anchor,” the one who kept him grounded even after fame arrived.
On fatherhood, Jim called himself an “unorthodox parent,” balancing discipline with friendship. He explained that divorce has not stopped him from being present in his son’s life, praising his ex-wife and her new partner for co-parenting in harmony. “Instead of jealousy, I see my son as blessed with two fathers,” he said.
Speaking about Nollywood, Jim believes the industry urgently needs government support, policies, and structure, warning that platforms like Netflix and Amazon are already pulling back because of disorganized content.
He also touched on fashion, travel, and his faith. For him, worship is his true sanctuary, while style is something “money can’t buy.”
Jim Iyke may have played the “bad boy” in countless films, but in reality, his story is one of resilience, faith, and constant reinvention. From boxing as a child to surviving career challenges, he continues to redefine himself, proving why he remains one of Nollywood’s most compelling figures.
