Cardi B is starting a brand-new chapter in her career, and she’s doing it in style. On Friday, September 19, the Grammy-winning rapper dropped her long-awaited sophomore album Am I the Drama?, and the project wasted no time in making history. Within hours of its release, the 23-track record was officially certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), a milestone that proves Cardi’s staying power in the ever-competitive rap scene.
The album features some of her biggest hits, including the nine-time platinum smash WAP with Megan Thee Stallion and the five-time platinum anthem Up. Both tracks dominated the Billboard Hot 100 upon release and have become cultural moments in their own right. Cardi recently explained why she decided to include them, saying her fans had been asking for it. According to her, songs like WAP and Up “deserve a home” on an album since fans search for them constantly. She also admitted that she once let critics sway her decision not to submit WAP for Grammy consideration, but this time around she’s putting her fans first.

The RIAA also celebrated the achievement on X, congratulating Cardi for scoring a platinum certification so quickly. This comes as no surprise considering her track record. Back in 2018, her debut album Invasion of Privacy set a historic benchmark when all 13 tracks were certified platinum or higher, making her the first female rapper to ever achieve that. That record also extended her dominance as the first female artist to have every song on an album certified gold. On top of that, Cardi is the only female MC with multiple diamond-certified singles, thanks to Bodak Yellow, I Like It with J Balvin and Bad Bunny, and Girls Like You with Maroon 5.
With Am I the Drama?, Cardi B isn’t just reminding the world of her star power — she’s making it clear that her reign is far from over.
