Fola Shares How a Chance Encounter With Davido Led to a Major Studio Link-Up With Wizkid and DJ Tunez

Fast-rising Afrobeats act Fola has revealed how a series of unexpected moments reshaped his career trajectory, connecting him first with Davido and eventually leading to a defining studio session with Wizkid and DJ Tunez.

In a recent interview, Fola described the past few months as “life-changing,” recalling how he met Davido just a day before the interview. A video of them together at a club quickly went viral, introducing him to a wider audience and creating a buzz around his name.

But the true turning point came when he received an unexpected call inviting him to collaborate with Wizkid and DJ Tunez. At the time, he had just left London for an event in Bristol. When he heard the familiar slang “Bad boy,” he initially dismissed it as a prank—until he realized it was actually Wizkid’s team trying to reach him.

Fola said he felt crushed when he realized he was in the wrong city. “I need to be in the city with Big Wiz… I was so pained,” he admitted. Though he feared the opportunity might slip away, Wizkid’s team assured him to reconnect once he returned to London.

He made it back the next day but heard nothing for a while, turning the excitement into anxious waiting. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, that one won’t change my life!’” he said.

The breakthrough finally came during a Chelsea vs. Fulham match. Fola received a message that read, “My Burna say, ‘Studio tomorrow,’” which he explained was a casual reference to Wizkid. Once he called the number provided and heard the words “Let me tell Wiz,” he knew the moment was real.

The next day, he walked into the studio and met Wizkid in person. Alongside DJ Tunez, they recorded a track the interviewer described as “one of the biggest records in 2022 and five,” marking a major milestone in Fola’s rise.

When asked whether luck played a role in his journey, Fola credited hard work and divine timing. “I’ve put in the hard work; God just crowned the efforts,” he said.
