Nigerian movie director and dancehall artiste Dare Fasasi has spoken out against corruption among government officials, sharing his personal experience with public transportation in Lagos.

On a recent trip, Dare opted to commute by train to avoid the heavy road traffic. However, his experience at the Orile–Iganmu train station left him shocked. He discovered that attendants were openly collecting payments into personal accounts from commuters who had no choice but to comply, as Cowrie cards the primary method for train access were unavailable during the busy December season.

“Corruption is our greatest nemesis as a people. Everyone manages to pervert any position they find themselves in then we wonder why the country won’t develop,” Dare wrote. He described the practice as “daylight robbery dressed up as public service” and stressed that such behavior undermines public infrastructure.

The artiste emphasized that mismanagement like this can severely damage train patronage and the credibility of public services. He warned that systems sabotaged for personal gain cannot survive and that allowing such practices to continue only harms the nation.

Dare Fasasi called on the government to take decisive action. “Public infrastructure cannot thrive when it’s treated as a personal cash machine. If we don’t call this out and demand accountability, we’re complicit. Fix the system. Enforce standards. Punish corruption. Nigerians deserve better,” he stated.

Through his post, Dare positioned himself as an advocate for transparency and accountability, urging citizens and authorities alike to confront corruption to protect public resources and ensure efficient services.

Dare Fasasi’s experience highlights the urgent need to tackle corruption in Nigeria’s public services, demonstrating that accountability and enforcement are essential for the development and sustainability of infrastructure.
