Controversial Nigerian artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has regained his freedom after spending one week in detention. The singer was released on Monday, January 19, 2026, after meeting bail conditions set by the Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State.
Portable’s legal troubles began last Monday when he was arraigned on a nine-count charge. The charges include theft, assault, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest. Following his arraignment, the presiding judge ordered that he be remanded in prison pending a bail hearing, which was concluded on Sunday.
The charges stem from a domestic dispute that occurred on New Year’s Eve. At the time, a viral video surfaced online showing a physical altercation between Portable and his baby mama, actress Ashabi Simple. In the footage, Ashabi was seen holding onto the singer’s clothes while shouting:
“Pami baby,” which translates to “Baby, you have to kill me.”
Following the incident, Ashabi and her siblings reportedly filed a formal complaint with the police. They accused the “Zazu” crooner of physical assault and the theft of their motor vehicle. The prosecution also stated that the singer resisted arrest when law enforcement officers attempted to take him into custody.
Shortly after his release, a video of Portable began trending online. In the clip, the singer maintained his innocence and reacted to the allegations. He told followers:
“The accusations against me are false.”
Although he has been granted temporary freedom, the case is far from over. The court has adjourned the matter to a later date for further hearing. Portable is expected to return to court to face the nine-count charge as the legal process continues.
This latest incident adds to a growing list of legal controversies involving the singer. Despite his musical success, Portable remains one of the most polarizing figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
