Veteran Nigerian musician Baba Fryo has criticized Afrobeats star Wizkid, accusing him of disrespect after claiming to be “bigger” than the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

The feud escalated on social media after Wizkid responded to Seun Kuti’s disapproval of fan comparisons by asserting his dominance over the late legend. In a series of posts, Wizkid wrote:

“I’m Big Wiz, everyday bigger than your papa!!
Wetin u one do, fool?”

He further dismissed the Kuti scion as a “hungry bastard.”

Reacting on Wednesday, January 21, Baba Fryo expressed concern over the generational shift in cultural respect.

“I just dey shame for this Gen Z.
How can these kids compare a kid to an elder?
Fela was a great musician, a multi-instrumentalist, a revolutionist,”
Baba Fryo stated.
“He wasn’t just an artiste but a full-time musician,
and he remained relevant for over 30 years until the day he died.”

The “Dem Go Dey Pose” crooner compared the situation to international music cultures to emphasize the disrespect. He said icons like Bob Marley are treated with reverence in Jamaica.

“A Jamaican artiste would never do such to Bob Marley.
I dey shame for this youth.
Call Gen Zero sense,”
Fryo added.

The dispute has divided the Nigerian entertainment industry. Supporters of Wizkid cite his global streaming numbers and awards as proof of his “bigness.” Critics, including veteran artists, argue that Fela’s influence as a social activist and musical innovator cannot be measured by modern commercial metrics.
