The remains of late Afro-Fuji musician Azeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, arrived at his father’s residence in Ayetoro, Ogun State, on Thursday, January 23, for interment. A video circulating online showed a white funeral hearse arriving at the Odo Rori compound amid heavy security and sirens, marking the final homecoming for the 21-year-old artist.
The burial followed Destiny Boy’s sudden death earlier in the week, which sparked social media speculation and prompted police involvement. Despite calls for a public report on his cause of death, the family chose to hold private funeral rites at the residence in Ogun State.
Before the burial, Destiny Boy’s mother, Saide Adeshina, spoke about the health challenges her son faced. She confirmed that he had been battling a seizure-related condition for nearly two years, which started shortly after the naming ceremony of his child.
“The condition began nearly two years ago… it was concealed due to his celebrity status,” Saide said. “It was a seizure-like condition known locally as ‘Oku Oru,’ which caused recurring convulsions.”
The arrival of the corpse at the father’s compound came after a video circulated showing the singer suffering a seizure while in a vehicle with friends. While the police were involved in the early stages of investigating his death, no official autopsy results were made public before the burial on Thursday afternoon.
Destiny Boy, who rose to fame with Fuji-style covers of popular Afrobeats hits, is survived by his parents and a young child.
