Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has expressed frustration over the low financial returns from his music on digital streaming platforms despite frequent releases.

In a video shared on Tuesday, March 17, the “Zazu” crooner addressed concerns regarding his streaming revenue, and formally appealed to veteran music executive Don Jazzy for guidance on maximizing earnings.

Portable highlighted the disparity between his creative output and financial compensation. He noted that while he consistently releases music and maintains a global fan base, the revenue reflected in his accounts remains low. He specifically questioned the differences in payout between local and international streams, seeking clarity on earnings from fans in the United States and other foreign markets.

Detailing his grievances, Portable stated:

“I am in pain, I have been putting my song on Apple Music every month but the money I am generating is too low. They said it is because Nigerian streams are cheap but I also have fans in America and all over the world. Where is the revenue from those foreign streams? Don Jazzy, please, help me and teach me how to generate more money from music streams. I have Apple Music account but the revenue that I receive is very low. They divide my earnings into 17. Please, come and teach me how to fetch music money. If Don Jazzy teach me how to generate more money from streaming platforms, I would be bigger than all artistes in Nigeria.”

The artist further revealed that his earnings are currently split into 17 portions, though he did not provide specifics on the legal or administrative reasons behind this division. He emphasized that with proper mentorship from Don Jazzy, he believes he could surpass the commercial success of any other Nigerian artist.

This development comes in the wake of industry reports showing Nigerian artists generated over ₦60 billion on Spotify alone in 2025. Portable’s public outcry adds to ongoing conversations about streaming royalties, digital distribution contracts, and financial transparency for independent Nigerian musicians.
