Early Life

Producer X, also known as Yo X, is a Nigerian music producer, sound engineer and songwriter whose musical foundation was built in church. He served in his church choir and band from a young age, an environment that surrounded him with instruments and melodies long before he began producing professionally.

Career

Producer X’s breakout moment came through his brother, singer Berri Tiga, who introduced him to comedian-turned-singer Carter Efe. That connection led to “Machala,” a 2022 tribute to Wizkid that became a viral, chart-topping national anthem, debuting at number one on Apple Music Nigeria and reaching number 14 on the US Billboard Afrobeats chart. It was Producer X’s first viral hit, and he has said the doors kept opening from there.

Berri Tiga also connected Producer X with Shallipopi, leading to the record “Evil Receive.” He went on to produce “Otilo,” featuring Poco Lee and Hotkid, and “Benin Boys,” a collaboration between Rema and Shallipopi, further cementing his reputation as one of the architects behind some of the most viral Afrobeats anthems of the era. His catalogue also includes work on Peruzzi‘s “Things I Know.”

Reflecting on his rapid rise, Producer X has spoken about his ambition to write his name into Nigerian music folklore, describing it as a privilege to work with artists at the heights he hopes to reach himself one day. He remains committed to refining his sound, undeterred by early scepticism, as he continues building his catalogue within Nigeria’s fast-moving music industry.

Personal Life

Producer X has kept much of his personal life private, crediting family, in particular his brother Berri Tiga, and fate for helping open the doors to some of his most successful collaborations.

With a run of viral, chart-topping records already behind him, Producer X remains one of the fast-rising young producers shaping the sound of contemporary Afrobeats.
