Sess, born Salami Oluwasesan Abbas and often stylised as Sess the PRBLM Kid, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and music producer best known for solely producing Falz and Simi’s acclaimed joint EP, Chemistry.
Born on November 26, 1988, in Ilorin, Kwara State, into a family of four children with roots in Offa, Sess attended the University of Ilorin for his early education before continuing at Thomas Adewunmi International School. He went on to study law and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2012, giving him a legal background unusual among his production peers.
Despite his legal training, Sess built his career primarily as a producer, becoming closely associated with rapper Falz, for whom he handled the bulk of production duties across two studio albums, including Stories That Touch, along with sound arrangement and instrumentation, a role often compared to a trusted in-house producer shaping an artist’s overall sonic identity.
Sess is credited with helping establish genre performer Terry Apala as a standout act, further building his reputation as a producer capable of shaping distinctive artistic identities rather than simply supplying interchangeable beats. His mainstream sound watermark, ‘Sess, The Problem Kid,’ appears at the start or end of his productions.
Often described by peers as an underappreciated force in Nigerian music, Sess continues to work primarily behind the scenes, with a body of work that industry commentators argue deserves more recognition given his consistent contributions to some of the country’s most acclaimed projects.
