Nigerian Afropop and Afro-RnB artist AkayCentric has won the award for Best African Performance at the 2026 World Entertainment Awards for his single, “Recess.”

The ceremony, held on January 31 in Hollywood, recognized the track for its cultural impact and growing global appeal. The win follows a period of international momentum for the artist, during which the song was also considered for a Grammy Award in the Best African Music Performance category.

Reacting to the achievement, AkayCentric described the honor as a collective milestone for Africa.

“The award is a shared victory. I dedicate it to Africa and to dreamers everywhere who continue to work hard and pray for a better future,” he said.

He further noted:

“The recognition reflects years of perseverance and faith in African sound and storytelling.”

The artist also credited his professional team for the success of the project. He specifically acknowledged his manager, Ayo Oshodi of Afropanda Entertainment, and the team at CentricsPlayhouse.

“The award belongs to the entire team,” AkayCentric stated, adding that the guidance of his management “helped shape my creative path.”

Beyond the success of “Recess,” AkayCentric has continued to merge music with social advocacy. His earlier project, “Moving On,” was recognized by the United Nations as Africa’s first AI-powered climate change music video.

Industry analysts view this World Entertainment Awards victory as further proof of African music’s expanding influence within the global entertainment market. AkayCentric concluded by thanking his supporters and collaborators, describing the moment as a celebration of resilience, innovation, and belief in African creativity.
