Early Life

Damilola Afolabi, Popularly known as L.A.X was born in Lagos State, Nigeria, attended Nigerian Turkish International College in Lagos. During his time in secondary school, he formed the music group Flyboiz and released their first single, “Busy Body.”

After leaving the group to further his education, L.A.X moved to the United Kingdom, where he began recording music and shooting videos.

Career

On August 20, 2013, L.A.X signed a major record deal with Starboy Entertainment, just after releasing his hit song “Caro.” The track received critical acclaim and earned him the “Diaspora Artiste of the Year” award at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

In 2012, L.A.X released his first major single, “Jaye,” which featured Ice Prince. Upon returning to Nigeria, he met Wizkid through his stylist and soon signed his first professional recording contract with Starboy Entertainment in 2013.

On August 20, 2013, L.A.X and Wizkid dropped their collaborative single “Caro,” which gained massive airplay and critical acclaim. The song earned a nomination for “Hottest Single of the Year” at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Building on the success of “Caro,” L.A.X released another track, “Ginger,” featuring Wizkid. The song was nominated for “Best Collaboration” at the 2014 BEN Television Awards.

In August 2014, He completed his master’s degree at the University of Manchester. In an interview with Encomium Magazine, L.A.X shared that he was working on his debut studio album.

L.A.X has proven to be a versatile and determined artist, making significant strides in the Nigerian music industry. From his early days in the Flyboiz group to signing with Starboy Entertainment, his career has been marked by hit songs, notable collaborations, and critical acclaim.
