Early Life
Alexander Adelabu, professionally known as Magixx, was born on September 27, 1999, and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He earned a degree in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos. From an early age, Magixx showed musical potential, drawing influence from legends like Fela Kuti and DMX. His journey began in the church choir and evolved through experimentation with Afropop, trap, dancehall, and R&B. Encouraged by his mother and later his father, Magixx stayed committed to his artistic path despite early financial and emotional challenges.
Career
Magixx’s breakout came in 2019 with his single Problem, which quickly caught the attention of top industry figures, including Mayorkun, M.I, and Don Jazzy. This momentum led to his signing with Mavin Records in 2021. He debuted with his self-titled EP Magixx, signaling his arrival with a polished and experimental sound.
In 2022, he collaborated with Ayra Starr on the hit version of Love Don’t Cost a Dime, which climbed into the top 10 of Nigerian music charts. His follow-up single Shaye set the stage for his second EP ATOM, released to critical acclaim. In 2023, he continued to showcase versatility with back-to-back singles like Colors (My Baby), Loyal, and Maria.
Magixx’s rise highlights the power of persistence, originality, and a genre-blending approach. With each release, he solidifies his position as one of Afropop’s most promising voices.
