Early Life
TY Bello, born on January 14, 1978, in Ogun State, Nigeria, graduated with a degree in Economics from the University of Lagos. After a short stint in journalism, she shifted into photography and music, where her creative journey took full flight.
She entered the Nigerian music scene as a member of the inspirational group Kush, known for their early 2000s hit Let’s Live Together. The group featured Lara George, Dapo Torimiro, and Emem Ema, and their sound laid the foundation for TY’s soulful musical direction.
Career
In 2008, TY Bello released her debut album Greenland, a heartfelt project that earned her accolades at both the Nigeria Music Awards and Sound City Awards. The album focused on love, national identity, and hope. Its title track became an anthem for positive change in Nigeria.
She followed up in 2011 with The Future, urging young Nigerians to rise up and drive transformation. The album’s lead single, also titled The Future, inspired youth activism and received critical acclaim for its thoughtful lyrics and production.
In 2013, TY released Yahweh, a worship single featuring Wale Adenuga. A year later, she surprised fans by dropping The Morning Songbook on SoundCloud. This unannounced album featured tracks like Jesu Jesu and Thirsty, showcasing her growth as a worship leader and songwriter.
Aside from music, TY Bello is a celebrated photographer and humanitarian. She served as the official photographer to former President Goodluck Jonathan and contributes to ThisDay Style magazine. Through her NGO, Link-a-child, she raises awareness and support for orphanages.
TY Bello continues to influence culture through her art, photography, and music. Her message remains rooted in hope, beauty, and purpose, as she builds bridges between creativity and compassion.
