Former Big Brother Naija housemate Adeoluwa Okusaga, popularly known as Saga, has revealed that joining the reality show was a deliberate step to enter the entertainment industry.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Saga described his time on the show as a calculated “launchpad” for his creative career.

Before appearing on the 2021 “Shine Ya Eye” season of Big Brother Naija, he had focused on his career as an offshore engineer, suppressing his artistic talents to meet the demands of the oil and gas sector.

He explained the influence of his colleagues in motivating his decision:

“I went to Big Brother Naija to launch my career as an entertainer. I am an engineer. My colleagues at work begged me to go for Big Brother Nigeria; they said I will do well.”

Reflecting on his student life, Saga admitted that he prioritized academics over his passions.

“When I was an engineering student in school, I didn’t even touch any of the creatives; I completely abandoned them. I started drawing officially the year after I left school.”

He also highlighted the compatibility of engineering and creative arts, citing the mental skills required in both fields:

“As an engineer, you have to have a powerful imagination, understanding, and skill. A lot of artists like Da Vinci ended up as engineers because it’s a parallel.”

Since leaving the show in the ninth week, Saga has carved out a successful career in Nollywood, appearing in over a dozen films. He concluded that the move, though risky, was worthwhile:

“The Big Brother experience was good. It was rough at the time, but in hindsight, it was absolutely worth it. I couldn’t have pictured my life playing out differently.”

Saga’s story showcases how strategic planning and courage can turn a reality TV opportunity into a thriving creative career.
