Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has opened up about her marriage and the benefits of age gaps in relationships. She spoke about her union with legendary actor Olu Jacobs during a recent appearance on the TVC programme Your View.
Joke Silva, 64, explained why she believes marrying an older man has its advantages. Her husband, Olu Jacobs, 83 — is 20 years older than her. According to the actress, maturity often brings patience and tolerance.
Speaking on the show, she said:
“This older men allows you to get away with a lot of things.”
She also shared how they first met. The encounter happened in a professional setting. At the time, Jacobs was already a respected figure in the industry. However, Silva said she did not immediately realise how famous he was.
She recalled:
“Yes we met on stage, and when we met on a movie set, everybody knew it was the great Olu Jacob who was coming, except me.”
Silva further revealed that the attraction was not instant on her part. Although they worked well together, she did not experience love at first sight. She explained that she only discovered his real age after they began dating.
In her words:
“When he came, we got on very well and it was after we started dating that I discovered his age because he looked so good. For him, it was love at first sight but for me, it wasn’t.”
The couple married in 1985. At the time, Silva was 24 while Jacobs was 44. Their marriage has lasted over four decades. Today, it remains one of Nollywood’s most admired and enduring unions.
