Grammy-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar has addressed past industry friction by referencing Young Thug in his guest verse on the track Good Flirts. The song is part of Baby Keem’s sophomore album, Ca$ino, released via pgLang and Columbia Records.
The track marks the latest collaboration between the cousins and features additional vocals from Momo Boyd. Kendrick’s verse has gained attention for seemingly responding to leaked jail calls from last year, in which Young Thug reportedly criticized Lamar and Keem for their perceived reluctance to collaborate with other artists.
“To be honest, nas love love too / St, I gossip with my bh like I’m Young Thug too,” Lamar raps on the melodic, downtempo record.
The lyric is widely interpreted as a playful nod to viral recordings that surfaced during Young Thug’s YSL RICO trial, which included private conversations between the Atlanta rapper and his partner, Mariah the Scientist. Industry analysts noted that while Young Thug had previously claimed Lamar would “never be bigger than Drake” and questioned why he wouldn’t “put somebody on,” The new verse by Kendrick Lamar is charismatic rather than combative.
Prior to the album’s release, Baby Keem shared personal context during a livestreamed listening event:
“I named it Ca$ino because that’s where I went through the things I went through. A lot of these stories, I used to be embarrassed to talk about. But I kinda changed my perspective on that a lot. It’s not embarrassing no more, it’s an empowering thing.”
Ca$ino is Keem’s first full-length project since 2021. As of now, neither Young Thug nor his representatives have publicly responded to Kendrick Lamar’s lyrical mention. The track has quickly become a talking point among fans, highlighting the ongoing interplay between some of hip-hop’s most influential artists.
