The Ikorodu High Court has ordered three independent DNA paternity tests to be conducted at international laboratories to determine the paternity of Liam Aloba, the son of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
In a ruling delivered on February 4, 2026, the court mandated that the tests be carried out outside Nigeria to ensure total transparency. Each party in the suit—Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, and the singer’s widow, Wunmi—will nominate one foreign laboratory, while the court will appoint the third.
Oladayo Ogungbe, the legal counsel representing Joseph Aloba, confirmed the development following the court session. He explained that the move to international facilities became necessary after a local laboratory suggested by a welfare officer was found ill-equipped for the specialized analysis. Ogungbe stated:
“The court has now ruled that three independent DNA tests be conducted in three different laboratories outside the shores of Nigeria. This is to ensure that the results are not compromised in any way.”
The lawyer further detailed that the tests would utilize tissue samples. He added:
“We are using tissue because it is more accurate. One lab will be nominated by the applicant, one by the respondent, and the third will be court-appointed.”
He also clarified that Joseph Aloba would not be responsible for the costs of the foreign tests, noting:
“My client is not the one to pay for these tests.”
The court ordered that representatives from both the Aloba family and Wunmi be present during the sample collection process to witness the proceedings.
Joseph Aloba has maintained his stance on the matter, previously stating that the burial of his son’s remains depends on the resolution of the paternity issue. The case has been adjourned until February 10, 2026, for a further report on the progress of the nominations.
