Popular Nigerian rapper Okafor Victor, professionally known as Mr Real, has issued a formal public apology to Afrobeats veteran D’banj. The apology was released on Monday, January 19, 2026, following a series of viral social media posts in which Mr Real accused the singer of failing to honor a ₦20 million ambassadorial deal linked to the Creative Reality Entertainment Art & Music (CREAM) platform.
The retraction marks a major shift in the legal dispute, which had reached an Abuja Magistrate Court. D’banj’s legal team had filed a petition for criminal defamation, prompting Mr Real to be summoned to court. He released his apology video on the same day he was scheduled to appear.
The conflict began in late 2025 when the rapper questioned D’banj’s public claim about a $3 billion investment fund for the creative sector. He argued that a company of such value should not struggle to pay an ambassadorial fee. These statements later became the basis of the legal complaint.
In his apology video, Mr Real adopted a remorseful tone and addressed D’banj directly. He stated:
“My earlier comments were based on a misunderstanding and misinterpretation of the facts surrounding the CREAM platform.”
He added:
“I am sincerely sorry for the damage caused.”
The rapper also acknowledged D’banj’s influence on his career. He described the veteran singer as a mentor and father figure, saying:
“I still hold deep love and respect for him.”
Mr Real has now officially withdrawn all defamatory statements and pledged not to make further public comments on the matter. He confirmed:
“I am cooperating to resolve the issue amicably and avoid further legal action.”
