The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has confirmed its readiness to investigate allegations against Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, following the resurfacing of controversial social media posts from over a decade ago. The posts relate to Simi’s conduct while working at her mother’s daycare center.
In a formal statement, NAPTIP emphasized its commitment to reviewing credible reports of misconduct or child abuse in daycare settings. The agency encouraged anyone with direct knowledge, factual evidence, or personal experience regarding the incidents referenced in the viral posts to come forward.
“NAPTIP will maintain confidentiality for any whistleblowers or victims who provide information necessary to facilitate a thorough inquiry,” the agency stated.
The controversy centers on tweets from 2012, when Simi was 23 years old. In the posts, the singer described interactions with a four-year-old boy named David. One tweet read:
“David has a crush on me. He kips comn close; actin lik he wana lock lips n den he puts his head on my lap. Shd I giv him a chance? P.S: Hes 4.”
Other tweets questioned why the child was “tryna put hand inside” her shorts, while a third stated:
“I love to kiss d kids at my mum’s daycare – they’re super adorable and I’m crazy about ‘em.”
Simi has publicly addressed the resurfaced tweets, explaining that 14 years ago she was a “cheeky young woman” who tweeted about everyday events. She stressed that the posts were innocent observations of “mischievous” children and were never intended to be “perversion” or “depravity.”
“While some posts have been deleted for sensitivity to my family, I initially did not want to because I felt I had nothing to hide,” she added.
No formal charges have been filed yet. However, NAPTIP’s involvement marks a significant escalation, as the federal agency remains the primary body responsible for reviewing credible allegations of historical or current child misconduct.
