Nollywood comic actor and content creator Bamidele Tope Saint, popularly known as Okemesi, has passed away following medical complications.
The actor was pronounced dead at a private hospital on Tuesday at about 11:50 a.m. His colleague, Jeff Owolewa, known as Tony Montana, confirmed the news in a video shared on Instagram.
According to Owolewa, Okemesi fell into a coma on Monday morning after experiencing severe reactions to medication administered during a previous hospital visit. He said:
“With a heavy heart, I am announcing to the world that Okemesi is dead. Bamidele Oluwatope, aka Okemesi, is dead. The doctor pronounced him dead at precisely 11:50 a.m. this morning.”
Owolewa also revealed that the actor’s condition worsened over the weekend. Although he had been discharged earlier, his health reportedly declined rapidly.
On Monday, the family allegedly struggled to secure admission at several hospitals due to a lack of bed space. Eventually, he was taken back to the private hospital that previously treated him. Doctors placed him on oxygen, but he later passed away.
His death comes just two days after he moved into a new apartment secured through public donations. The actor had recently made a viral appeal for help, saying he was homeless and battling a prolonged illness.
Owolewa added:
“On behalf of the entire Bamidele family, I am announcing to the world that Oluwatope Bamidele Okemesi is dead. We have taken the body to the morgue. We appreciate everyone who supported him.”
Okemesi was widely known for his comedic skits and roles in Yoruba and mainstream Nollywood productions, including Dearest, Aborisade, and Mebamu.
His passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues across the Nigerian entertainment industry.
