Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has revealed that her children received direct death threats during the 2020 EndSARS nationwide protests. She shared this revelation in a recent interview on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds, explaining that the experience fundamentally changed her approach to public advocacy and social activism.
According to Omotola, the severity of the threats marked a major departure from the usual professional risks she had faced throughout her career. While she was accustomed to personal dangers, the targeting of her family made the situation “real” in a way she had never encountered before.
“I am used to death threats; I have received them many times. But I have never seen anything like what happened during EndSARS. It was intense. My kids started getting death threats. That was when it became real, and when I realised this was no longer just about me,” the actress stated.
The security concerns escalated beyond online threats, with reports of individuals attempting to locate her physically.
“When people started coming to my home and workplace looking for me, I knew it was time to think beyond myself. I had to protect others, especially my children,” she added.
Jalade-Ekeinde explained that as her children have grown more independent, safeguarding them has become increasingly complex. This has prompted her to shift from street protests to more strategic advocacy efforts.
“I can’t control where they go. I can’t protect them as much. I don’t care for my life, but I do care for them,” she emphasized.
In addition to these personal disclosures, the actress addressed trends in the film industry. She stated that she will not participate in social media dance marketing for her directorial debut, Mother’s Love, which is set to premiere in cinemas on March 6, 2026.
“I’m sorry, but I won’t be dancing to market or promote my movie. It’s not professional. I’ve done the movie, now I just have to go around and promote it,” she concluded.
