Early Life
Olugbenga Adelekan, professionally known as Olugbenga, is a Nigerian-born music producer and performer. He creates and performs music as a solo artist and also plays bass for the critically acclaimed band Metronomy, which earned a nomination for the Mercury Music Prize.
Olugbenga was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and spent part of his childhood in The Hague, The Netherlands, before moving back to Nigeria during his teenage years. At 16, he relocated to England, where he began creating original music and exploring his artistic voice.
He pursued higher education at King’s College, Cambridge, where he studied English literature, further enriching his creative background.
Outside of music, Olugbenga leads a family life—he is married and a father. His passion for music runs in the family, as his brother, Seye Adelekan, is also a professional musician and performs as the live bassist for the band Gorillaz.
Career
Olugbenga has released music under his own name as well as through his collaborative side project, Eku Fantasy, which he formed with producer Gareth Jones, also known as Jumping Back Slash. In addition to his original work, he has produced remixes for a range of artists, showcasing his versatility as a music producer.
In 2012, he embarked on an international tour that took him across Asia, Australia, Russia, and the UK. He also performed at major European festivals such as Field Day, Dot to Dot Festival, off Sonar in Spain, Soundwave Festival in Croatia, Kendal Calling, and the Summer Sundae Weekender in the UK.
Olugbenga is known for his live performances, which he creates using Ableton Live and MIDI controllers, blending technology with musical expression.
He is a father of two children, Ravi and Maya. In 2022, Olugbenga released a charity single with Ravi, who had undergone brain surgery to remove a benign tumour. The single featured contributions from Bastille and Paloma Faith and aimed to raise awareness and support for children facing similar health challenges.
In 2024, Olugbenga, Ravi, and their family appeared on the seventeenth series of Britain’s Got Talent as part of a group called Ravi’s Dream Team. Performing alongside doctors, teachers, and children affected by brain tumours, the group touched audiences nationwide and advanced to the semi-finals, using their platform to inspire and advocate for others.
