Former Big Brother Naija housemate and reality TV star Tochi has strongly criticized the growing trend of using police officers as personal assistants and status symbols in Nigeria.

In a passionate statement, Tochi said many Nigerians now treat uniformed officers like private security, assigning them to non-official duties such as escorting them to parties, opening car doors, taking pictures, and even posing for social media content. According to him, this trend disrespects the police force, distracts officers from their real duties, and damages public trust in law enforcement.

He insisted that the Nigeria Police Force was created to protect citizens and uphold national security, not to act as symbols of status. Tochi criticized the idea of assigning several officers to events like weddings or social gatherings, calling it a clear misuse of public resources.

Tochi urged Nigerians to hire private security if they need protection for personal functions. He pointed out that in other countries, even wealthy or high-ranking officials move with minimal fuss and often rely on discreet, professionally trained private guards not police officers.

He also warned that young people watching this behavior online might begin to believe that abusing authority and misusing security forces is normal or acceptable. Tochi added that real abuse isn’t just physical it can be cultural and institutional, and once it becomes normalized, it’s harder to reverse.

In closing, Tochi stressed that public officers serve the entire nation, not individuals. Turning law enforcement into a personal entourage insults their service and weakens the integrity of the entire system. He called for immediate cultural change and respect for the purpose of public institutions.
