The legal tussle over the ownership of 9mobile has taken another twist as businessman Alhaji Abubakar Isa heads to the Court of Appeal, challenging a Federal High Court ruling that struck out his case involving 43 million ordinary shares in Teleology Nigeria Limited, the company behind 9mobile.

Isa’s initial suit, which named Seltrix Limited and eight other defendants, was dismissed by Justice M. Umar on September 24, 2025. The judge ruled that Isa lacked the legal standing to bring the matter before the court, explaining that he had not provided enough evidence to prove that the disputed shares were held in trust for him.

However, Isa is not backing down. On October 13, 2025, he filed a Notice of Appeal at the Federal High Court, arguing that the lower court erred in its judgment. He insists that his statement of claim clearly showed he had beneficial ownership of the shares in question. He also argues that the court should have based its decision on the writ of summons and statement of claim, not affidavits from the preliminary objection.

The appeal seeks to overturn the earlier decision and have the case reassigned to another judge for proper hearing. This development has renewed attention on the long-running ownership battle surrounding 9mobile, which has faced a series of legal disputes since its transition from Etisalat Nigeria.

With the next hearing set for November 5, 2025, industry watchers are keeping a close eye on how this case could affect Teleology’s ownership structure and, ultimately, the future direction of 9mobile’s operations in Nigeria’s highly competitive telecom sector.
