Early Life
Eku Edewor Father, Hugh Thorley, is a British national, worked in the food and beverage logistics sector. After their divorce, both parents remarried. Her late stepfather, Peter Thomas, was a businessman and lawyer based in Lagos. On her motherโs side, Eku descends from the prominent Nigerian chief and billionaire, Chief James Edewor.
Eku spent her formative years in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom. She lived in Lagos until the age of 13, attending St. Saviourโs School and Grange School. She later enrolled at Benenden School for Girls in the UK for her secondary education. Eku went on to study English Literature and Theatre Studies at the University of Warwick, graduating with honors in 2008. She then completed a three-month acting program at the New York Film Academy in 2009 to refine her on-screen skills.
Career
Eku made her first television appearance in 2006 as a contestant on Britainโs Next Top Model, using her full name, Georgina Edewor-Thorley. While at Warwick and later in New York, she acted in various theatre productions. Her first professional role in the entertainment industry came as a production assistant to Damian Jones at DJ Films, where she worked from 2008 to 2009. In 2010, she landed a minor role in the biopic Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, playing a party girl.
After the passing of her stepfather, she returned to Nigeria in 2010 to help manage her motherโs business, Chardonnay Restaurant and Bar. Shortly after, she auditioned for and secured a co-presenter role on 53 Extra, a lifestyle and entertainment show on Africa Magic. The show focuses on African pop culture, including music, fashion, film, and celebrity events.
Following her success on 53 Extra, Eku continued to appear on screen in various roles. In 2010, she co-hosted the Big Brother Africa All Stars red carpet show. She also began hosting the Pepsi Top Ten Countdown in 2012 and featured in several commercials, including campaigns for M-NET and Martini.
In acting, Eku played the lead character Sapphire in the 2013 romantic comedy Flower Girl, marking her first major film role. She later appeared as Victoria in When Love Comes Around (2014), a film produced by Zynnell Zuh. She also took on television roles, including Sade Coker in The Island and Nicole in the online series How She Left My Brother.
Eku continues to maintain a global lifestyle, spending her time between London, Lagos, and New York City while traveling across Africa for work and personal projects.
