Adekunle Gold has turned personal pain into powerful art on his upcoming Fuji album, set to release on October 3. The singer shared that the emotional weight of losing his father in 2019 became the foundation for “Simile,” one of the most heartfelt tracks on the project.

During that difficult time, he struggled to find joy, even after receiving an invitation to contribute to Beyoncé’s Lion King project. Though it was a major opportunity, he felt emotionally numb. Pushed by his manager to return to the studio, Adekunle eventually picked up his microphone at home and channeled his grief into music.

“Simile,” which means “rest on me” or “lean on me” in Yoruba, was born from that moment. The track reflects his confusion, sorrow, and need for direction following his father’s death. Though it was once considered for Beyoncé’s album, it never made the final cut and remained unreleased.

In 2024, a studio session with longtime collaborator Michael revived the track. Listening to it again reminded Adekunle of its raw emotional depth. He knew then that it deserved a place on Fuji.

This upcoming project marks his sixth studio album, following Tequila Ever After in 2023. It weaves together themes of growth, fatherhood, grief, and victory offering listeners an intimate look into his journey.

With Fuji, Adekunle Gold invites fans into his most personal chapter yet.
