Nigerian rapper CDQ has revealed that Afrobeats superstar Davido once offered him a record deal at a pivotal moment in his career. Following the success of his breakout hits “Indomie” and “Nowo E Soke,” CDQ said Davido reached out via Twitter, expressing interest in signing him.

According to CDQ, Davido had just completed a successful African tour and wanted to reinvest the profits into building CDQ’s brand, aiming to make him the biggest rapper in Africa.
CDQ, however, made it clear that he wouldn’t move forward without his longtime producer, Masterkraft. He insisted that any deal must include him. The three eventually met for discussions, where Masterkraft proposed a different approach. Instead of a traditional record deal, Masterkraft suggested a partnership between CDQ and Davido’s label, emphasizing that CDQ had already built a strong street following and would benefit more from an equal alliance.
Despite the pitch, Davido declined the idea of a partnership. With neither side willing to compromise, the deal fell apart.
He reflected on the moment, saying, “Davido told me he made a lot of money from his African tour and wanted to invest in me. But I told him that Masterkraft has to be involved. At the meeting, Masterkraft suggested a partnership, but Davido turned it down.”
Although the deal never materialized, He continued to grow independently while maintaining his collaboration with Masterkraft. His story highlights the complexities of music business decisions and the importance of loyalty and creative alignment.
