Nigerian comedian Ekene Clinton Egbuna, popularly known as KlintonCod, has spoken out in defense of UK politician Kemi Badenoch after her recent remarks about life in a Nigerian boarding school sparked backlash. Badenoch compared her experience at Federal Government Girls’ College, Sagamu, to life in prison a statement that many Nigerians have criticized.

KlintonCod, however, believes her words reflect the harsh reality many former boarding school students endured. Sharing his own experience from an all-boys school, the comedian described the environment as prison-like, with high walls, strict routines, and limited freedoms.
“The only difference between my boarding school and a prison was the mid-term breaks and holidays,” he said. “Everything else felt the same.”
Having visited UK prisons in a professional capacity, KlintonCod revealed that inmates in those facilities often enjoyed better conditions than he experienced in school. He emphasized that this comparison isn’t meant to shame Nigeria but to spotlight long-ignored systemic problems in the educational environment.
“I haven’t seen a valid reason for the hate toward Kemi Badenoch. From what I’ve observed, people dislike her because she speaks uncomfortable truths,” he stated. “It’s okay to dislike someone, but it’s also okay to admit when they’re telling the truth.”
KlintonCod’s remarks challenge Nigerians to reflect on the realities of the country’s educational institutions. By validating Badenoch’s controversial statement, he calls for more openness to criticism and a willingness to address long-standing issues. His message underscores the importance of truth even when it’s hard to hear.
