Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has reignited conversations around parenting with a bold claim: single mothers, in his view, cannot raise boys into men without the presence of a male figure. Speaking during a recent interview on Okay 101.7 FM in Accra, Ghana, Iyke stressed the importance of male influence in a boy’s development.
He argued that while women excel at nurturing, they often lack the traits needed to instill discipline, resilience, and toughness in boys. “A woman can’t raise a man. You’re not built for it. A single mother cannot raise a man properly,” he declared.
To support his point, Iyke recounted an incident during a family vacation in southern France. His four-year-old son was playing football when a group of white children refused to return his ball after the game. The boy ran back crying, prompting his mother to intervene. Iyke stopped her and insisted the situation required a father’s handling.
“This is a conversation between two men,” he told her. He let his son return to face the bullies alone. Moments later, the child stood up to the group, pushed the biggest boy, and retrieved his ball. Iyke described it as his proudest moment as a father.
The actor believes that parenting a boy involves more than protection it requires letting him confront challenges. “I’m not here to help you. I’m here to guide you, protect you, and provide. The rest, you figure out. That’s what builds strong men,” he said.
Jim Iyke’s comments have stirred mixed reactions, but his message is clear: strong male presence matters in raising boys.
