Early Life
Francis Duru was born in Cameroon to Nigerian parents from Imo State in southeastern Nigeria. He completed his primary and secondary education in Cameroon.
Seeking higher education, he moved to Nigeria and gained admission to the University of Port Harcourt, where he studied Theatre Arts. In 1996, he earned his B.Sc. degree in the field.
Career
Francis Duru began his acting career in 1989 with the film Missing Mark, directed by the late Ndubuisi Oko. Although the role didnโt immediately launch his career, he continued to work persistently in the industry.
His breakthrough came in 1995 when he starred as Ahanna in the action-comedy Rattlesnake, produced by the late Amaka Igwe. That role established him as a rising star in Nollywood.
He continued to build a reputation for powerful performances across genres. In 2020, Duru won the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Igbo) at the Best of Nollywood Awards for his performance in Mboputa.
Over the years, Francis Duru has combined his acting with leadership and advocacy, using his platform to uplift others and influence the Nigerian film industry.
