Early Life and Education
Hilda Dokubo, a prominent Nigerian actress and public figure, was born in Buguma, a town in Asari-Toru, Rivers State. As the eldest of six children, she grew up in a home where education and discipline shaped her pathโher father worked as an engineer, and her mother taught in a school. Hilda attended St. Mary State School on Aggrey Road for her primary education and later completed her secondary schooling at Government Girls Secondary School. She pursued higher education at the University of Port Harcourt, earning both a bachelor’s and a masterโs degree in Theatre Arts.
Career
Hilda Dokubo launched her acting career during her National Youth Service in 1992 with the film Evil Passion. She quickly became a familiar face in Nollywood, starring in a wide range of films such as Gone Forever, End of the Wicked, My Goodwill, and The CEO. Her role in the 2015 film Stigma earned her two major awards at the Africa Movie Academy AwardsโBest Actress in a Supporting Role and Best Actress in a Comedy.
Beyond acting, she continues to shape the industry through her work as a producer and creative force.
Hilda also founded the Centre for Creative Arts Education (CREATE), an NGO that uses arts to empower youth and women. She has remained an outspoken advocate for social justice, joining protests against rape, police brutality, and gender-based violence. In 2020, she stood alongside fellow actors to protest the controversial appointment of a political figure within the Nigerian film industry.
Currently, she serves as the Chairman of the Labour Party in Rivers State, merging her creative influence with political leadership to drive change.
