Early Life
Mary Lazarus hails from Ukwa East Local Government Area in Abia State, located in southeastern Nigeria. She was born into a family of nine and shares her position as the lastborn with her twin brother, Joseph. Growing up in a close-knit household with six siblings, she experienced a strong sense of family and cultural identity.
After completing her primary and secondary education, she earned her First School Leaving Certificate and West African Senior School Certificate. She later enrolled at the University of Ibadan, where she studied Geography. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Career
Mary Lazarus began her professional journey as a model in 2002. She appeared in commercials for major Nigerian brands such as Airtel and MTN. In 2009, she transitioned into acting with her debut role in the movie Waiting Years. Gbenro Ajibade introduced her to director John Njamah, who cast her in the film.
Over time, she built a strong reputation in Nollywood for her dynamic performances in both drama and comedy. In 2017, she made her directorial debut with the film Dance to My Beat, which she also produced. Her talents as both an actress and filmmaker have earned her a loyal following and critical acclaim.
Mary describes herself as a fun-loving person and continues to evolve in her craft while remaining grounded in her roots.
