Early Life
Ruby Akubueze, born in 1998, is a Nigerian actress, filmmaker, singer, model, and entrepreneur. She was born and raised in Umuahia, Abia State, as part of a family of six. Ruby completed her secondary education at Saint Joseph College, where she began to nurture her love for the arts. She later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos, solidifying her foundation for a career in entertainment.
Career
Ruby Akubueze began her acting journey in 2013, debuting in the web series Look Beyond, produced by Faith Moyosore. She gained early recognition for her role in Brother LIEnus alongside comedian AY Makun. Her major breakthrough came between 2018 and 2019 when she portrayed Frances in the widely acclaimed series MTV Shuga Naija, a performance that brought her international attention.
In 2023, she starred as Oby in Ijogbon, a Netflix original directed by Kunle Afolayan. Her performance added to her growing reputation as a powerful and versatile actress. Ruby has also won international awards for her work in the short film Rehearsal and was nominated for The Future Awards Africa Prize for Acting in 2020.
Beyond the screen, Ruby is deeply involved in advocacy and philanthropy. She volunteers with The Solace Network, an anti-bullying non-profit, and partners with the STAR Foundation, which supports education through scholarships and youth empowerment initiatives.
