Chopstix, born Olagundoye James Malcolm, is a Nigerian record producer, songwriter, and sound engineer whose fusion of Afrobeats, Hip-Hop, and R&B has made him one of the most sought-after hitmakers of his generation.

Born on April 8 in Jos, Plateau State, Chopstix discovered music production as a student at St Murumba Secondary School, the alma mater of pop duo P-Square, where a school-run studio and drama club gave him his first exposure to live and recorded sound. He went on to study at the University of Jos before beginning his career as a member of the Grip Movement alongside Yung L, Endia, and J Milla, a group that popularised explicit dancehall-inflected lyrics in the early 2010s Nigerian scene.

Chopstix’s breakthrough came in 2012 when he produced Ice Prince’s hit single ‘Aboki’ while working for GRIP Muzik, establishing him as a rising talent behind the boards. He went on to build a global production catalogue that includes Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last,’ Mr Eazi’s Life is Eazi mixtapes, and work with international acts including WSTRN and Chris Brown.

In February 2025, Chopstix won Best Global R&B Album at the Grammy Awards for his production work on Chris Brown’s 11:11 (Deluxe), becoming one of the most prominent Nigerian producers to receive the honour and sparking wider conversation about recognising producers as key architects of hit records.

A Grammy Award-winning and 4x Platinum-certified producer, Chopstix continues to split his output between Afrobeats and international R&B and hip-hop, cementing his place as one of the defining sonic architects connecting Nigerian music to the global mainstream.
