DJ Coublon, born Akwuba Charles Ugochukwu, is a Nigerian record producer and sound engineer best known for producing Kiss Daniel’s breakout hit ‘Woju’ and a string of other Afrobeats staples.

Born on November 4, 1989, in Akure, Ondo State, with roots in Anaocha, Anambra State, DJ Coublon developed an interest in music at the age of seven. He went on to study Physics with Electronics at Veritas University in Abuja, pairing a science-focused education with a growing passion for sound production that he pursued alongside his studies.

He began his music career in Onitsha, Anambra State, before relocating to Lagos in 2013, where he connected with artists including Iyanya and Kiss Daniel. In 2014, he signed with Made Men Music Group, the label co-owned by Iyanya, and that same year produced ‘Woju,’ one of the biggest Nigerian songs of 2014 and a career-defining record for both himself and Kiss Daniel.

DJ Coublon went on to build a catalogue of hits including Iyanya’s ‘Applaudise,’ Yemi Alade’s ‘Ferrari,’ and Tekno’s ‘Duro,’ establishing a reputation for polished, radio-ready Afropop and R&B production. He has described his early sound as being seen as ‘too churchy’ and ‘too cultural,’ prompting him to refine his style toward something that resonated with both older and younger listeners.

Since 2017, DJ Coublon has operated under his own imprint, Three Guard Records, continuing to produce for a new generation of Nigerian artists while maintaining the reputation he built as one of the key hitmakers of the mid-2010s Afrobeats explosion.
