Early Life
Ayobami Olaleye, known professionally as Phantom, is a multi-gold, award-winning Afrobeats producer, singer, and songwriter.
Ayobami Olaleye, known as Phantom, was born in Abule Egba, a suburb in Lagos, into a polygamous family. His father, Oba-Afolabi Olaleye, was a businessman, while his mother, Titi Olaleye, was a headmistress.
He attended St John’s Primary School and Vetland Grammar School for his primary and secondary education, later studying Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Lagos, where he earned a B.Sc.
In 2022, Phantom shared his early musical influences, citing African folk music and artists like Ebo Taylor, Manu Dibango, and Fela Kuti.
Career
In 2020, he became the third Nigerian Afrobeats producer to receive a gold certification from Syndicat National de l’Édition Phonographique (SNEP) after Burna Boy’s “Ye” achieved gold status in France.
Phantom also earned an award at the 2019 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival as African Producer of the Year and received a nomination for Producer of the Year at The Headies.
Furthermore, On 8 August 2022, he was recognized on the TurnTable Nigeria Producer Top 100 chart, reaching number 17.
Phantom began making music in 2007 after being introduced to Fruity Loops by a friend.
He started producing beats professionally in 2010, describing it as both a fulfilling and challenging journey.
He also gained recognition for his work on Burna Boy’s 2018 hit “Ye” and co-produced Mayorkun’s Headies award-winning album The Mayor of Lagos.
In 2022, he signed a global publishing deal with BMG Rights Management.
Above all, His notable productions includes “Diana” by Fireboy DML & Chris Brown, “Skeletun” by Tekno, “The Benz” by Spotless, “Bolanle” by IVD & Zlatan, and “Sugarcane” by Camidoh.
