Reno Omokri has stepped into the conversation surrounding the recent backlash on artist, Burna Boy. His message to Nigerians is simple: stop attacking the singer. The former presidential aide shared a strong appeal, encouraging Nigerians to show more unity and resist the urge to tear down one of the country’s biggest global representatives.

He noted that the singer has often stated publicly that Nigerians did not contribute significantly to his rise and that foreign audiences played a major role. Omokri reminded Nigerians that if they weren’t the ones who “made him,” they shouldn’t be trying to destroy him either.

“Burna Boy has repeatedly said Nigerians did not make him, and that he rose to the top because of foreigners. To a large extent, he is right. Now, since we did not push him up, the least we can do is not pull him down.”

Reno Omokri expressed disappointment over the growing trend of Nigerians criticizing Burna Boy online. He explained that he isn’t even a fan of the artiste, yet believes that national pride should come first.

“Seeing the anti-Burna trend among some Nigerians really saddens me. I am indifferent towards Burna Boy and cannot even name one of his songs. But he is a Nigerian, and he deserves my solidarity.”

He also urged the public to address any concerns about Burna Boy privately rather than amplifying negativity in a way that makes Nigerians look divided.

“Whatever Burna’s perceived failings, we can address them internally and secretly. But when we lead the anti-Burna Boy chorus, it makes us look like animals who devour their own young!”

He went on to highlight how global perceptions of Nigeria are often shaped by popular figures like Burna Boy and Wizkid.

“Many foreigners only have a positive image of Nigeria and Nigerians because of people like Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Nollywood stars.”

Omokri ended by reminding Nigerians that their energy should be protective, not destructive.

“Since we did not make him, we cannot break him.”
