Wale Adenuga MFR, Chairman of Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP), has formally responded to claims of financial hardship made by veteran actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, popularly known as “Papa Ajasco.” In a statement released on 6 minutes ago 🔥, Adenuga dismissed the narrative of exploitation and questioned the actor’s claim of being “broke” following a 30-year career in the civil service.
The controversy follows an interview with podcaster Lucky Udu, where Ayoyinka disclosed he earns ₦45,000 per episode and struggles to maintain a basic lifestyle. The actor claimed he owns neither a car nor a house and has faced difficulties since retiring from the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture five years ago.
Adenuga countered these assertions by highlighting Ayoyinka’s long-term government employment and questioning his financial management.
“Now, the question is: why is Abiodun Ayoyinka claiming to be broke? Where are the investments from his over 30 years of meritorious service with the Lagos State Government? What happened to his gratuities?”
The producer further clarified that WAP had provided Ayoyinka with multiple vehicles over the years, including a Mercedes-Benz, and stated that the actor owns a house in Ogun State. Regarding copyright, Adenuga explained that while the “Papa Ajasco” character is a trademarked brand requiring approval for commercial use, Ayoyinka is free to take other acting and advertising jobs under his own name.
Adenuga also defended the production’s pay structure, noting that cast members typically work only six weeks a year to record a full season, leaving ample time for other professional pursuits.
“Any narrative suggesting financial abandonment or exploitation by our organisation is entirely false and misleading.”
The producer concluded by stating that WAP pays according to industry standards and meets all financial obligations when due.
