Popular Nigerian skitmaker Isaac Aloma, professionally known as Zicsaloma, has revealed that his journey toward financial independence was delayed by the entitled attitude of some family members.
The content creator shared these insights during a recent video broadcast focused on financial freedom. He explained that many of his early business ventures failed because of the financial pressure and expectations placed on him by relatives.
“I did a lot of business while growing up but most of them failed because of family. African family and even your own family are very entitled to your wealth. Even when the purpose of working is to save money and build a better future.”
Zicsaloma stressed that building lasting wealth requires firm personal boundaries, even when emotions and family ties are involved. He argued that cultural expectations around supporting extended family can trap individuals in cycles that prevent long-term financial progress.
“It is very very okay to be financially heartless even to your friends and family so that you can even save up and break that circle. They will hate you for it but trust me it is for your own good.”
According to the comedian, being “selfish” in the short term is sometimes necessary to escape poverty and eventually reach a position where more meaningful and sustainable help can be offered. Without strict financial limits, he believes people risk remaining stagnant despite working hard.
Zicsaloma, who rose to fame through his multi-character comedy skits, concluded by advising his audience that while setting such boundaries may lead to temporary tension or being disliked, it remains the most effective path to genuine financial security.
