Nigerian music star Abolore Adegbola Akande, popularly known as 9ice, has revealed that he plans to get a tribal mark when he turns 50. The 45-year-old singer shared this in a recent TikTok video. He explained that the decision is a personal one inspired by his late father. Born in Ogbomosho, 9ice said his father had the same tribal mark. He wants to honour his memory by getting the same mark on his own face.

“By the time I’m 50, I will get the same mark as my dad. That’s what I want to do for my birthday. A lot of my boys said I won’t do that, but you will see,” he confidently said. His statement quickly sparked conversations online. Many fans expressed surprise, while others praised him for embracing his cultural roots.

9ice is well known for using the Yoruba language in his songs. His style is filled with proverbs and poetic lyrics, which has made him stand out over the years. He rose to fame in 2008 with his hit track Gongo Aso, a song that dominated the Nigerian music scene and earned him several awards. Since then, he has released multiple albums and singles, becoming one of Nigeria’s most respected indigenous artists.

In an interview with Nancy Isime in August 2025, 9ice also revealed details about his spiritual journey. He shared that he is a traditional worshipper. According to him, he became a traditionalist after a spiritual attack that lasted six months. He was vomiting blood until someone referred him to an Ifa priest who helped him heal. 9ice admitted he regretted not turning to traditional worship earlier.

His decision to get a tribal mark at 50 reflects his pride in his culture and heritage. It also shows his determination to stay true to his roots.
