Early Life
Reminisce hails from Ajilete, located in the Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, in the western region of Nigeria. Born on January 26, 1981, in Kaduna State, northern Nigeria, he grew up surrounded by diverse musical influences, listening to both local and international genres.
During his school years, he actively participated in musical performances. Reminisce pursued a degree in purchasing and supply at Kwara State Polytechnic.
Career And Achievements
Reminisce recorded his first song in 2006 and began working on a rap album at Coded Tunes, though it was never released. After taking time to focus on his studies, he returned to music in 2008.
He gained recognition with a feature on 9ice’s track “Bachelor’s Life” from Gongo Aso.
His debut single, “Ever Since,” featured 9ice, and his second single, “If Only,” was a love song produced by Dtunez. In 2014, Time Magazine named Reminisce one of the “Seven World Rappers You Should Meet,” while NotJustOk ranked him among the top three hip-hop artists of the year.
In 2015, Reminisce stirred controversy with his track “Local Rappers” and also became a brand ambassador for Orijin.
He released his debut album, Book of Rap Stories, in 2012, followed by Alaga Ibile in 2013. Both albums achieved commercial success.
In 2015, his third album, Baba Hafusa, debuted at number 12 on the US Billboard charts, a significant milestone for African hip-hop. El-Hadj, his fourth album, debuted at number 13 in 2016.
In addition to music, Reminisce expanded into acting, starring in the 2018 crime thriller King of Boys and its 2021 sequel.
